Road projects in final weeks

The last weeks and months of Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) road projects in Sheboygan County are here, according to the DOT northeast region office in Green Bay.

Milling, shoulder removal, and asphalt paving will be completed this week on southbound State 32 and will begin on northbound State 32 beginning at the Howards Grove village limits and continuing north to State 32/57.

The resurfacing project on State 32 from the north limit of the village of Howards Grove to State 57 includes milling the existing pavement and overlaying with asphalt. The existing paved shoulders will be widened from three feet to five feet and shoulder gravel will be added. Shoulder and centerline rumble strips will be installed along with new pavement marking.

The 7.3-mile, $1.9 million project is scheduled for completion in November.

State 32 and side roads will remain open to traffic except with temporary lane closures using flagging operations in the immediate area of work.

Curb and gutter will continue and structure repair work will finish this week on the State 144 reconditioning project from State 28 in Silver Creek to State 57 in Random Lake.

The 6.85-mile, $5 million is scheduled for completion in November.

Work consists of milling and resurfacing 6.85 miles of State 144 and widening the travel lanes by two feet, widening shoulders, replacing curb and gutter, replacing storm sewer in Silver Creek, replacing culverts, updating existing beam guard, flattening side slopes, and upgrading several intersections.

State 144 is closed from Carroll Street to State 28 for the duration of the project. Local access to the project will be allowed at various side streets. The detour is north along State 28, east on County A and south on State 57.

The contractor will begin placement of the rumble strips and work on installing signs along the project this week on the Interstate 43 resurfacing project from the Sheboygan/Manitowoc county line to the State 42/I-43 interchange.

The 6.9-mile, $6.2 million project, scheduled for completion in November, consists of concrete base patching of I-43 mainline, milling two inches of asphalt pavement and placing four inches of new asphalt pavement, ramp resurfacing at the I-43/State 42 interchange, culvert replacement, signing, and pavement marking.

There will be single lane closures of northbound and southbound I-43 during construction, leaving one lane of traffic open for motorists in various segments of the project work zone. However, lane closures will be removed during peak travel times on the weekend.

They will resume work on storm sewer laterals along State 42 (Calumet Drive) southbound lanes between Main Avenue and 26th Street. They will place the concrete sidewalk and driveway aprons along North Avenue eastbound lanes, west of State 42 (Calumet Drive). They will continue concrete joint repair work along the outside lanes and start drainage improvements along State 42 between Mueller Road and I-43. They will continue permanent signal upgrades at the State 42 and County J/DL intersection.

The 1.5-mile, $3.3 million project on Calumet Drive from Main Avenue to 26th Street in the city of Sheboygan, and from Mueller Road to I-43 includes full reconstruction of State 42 from Main Avenue to 26th Street, a total length of one-half mile, and pavement rehabilitation of State 42 from Mueller Road to I-43, a total length of 1 mile. Work consists of earthwork and grading, water main, sanitary sewer and storm sewer, base aggregate, concrete pavement, concrete pavement repair, concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk, street lighting, traffic signals, landscaping, pavement markings, and sign replacement.
