Sheboygan County Writers’ Club slates 60th anniversary celebration

One way the solitary task of the writer can beat the pernicious effects of isolation is to share those authorial creations with others happily afflicted with the same passion.

That was the original inspiration for The Sheboygan County Writers’ Club and the shared need that has kept it going since 1957.

On Thursday, Oct. 19, club members will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of their mutual support society.

A public celebration, co-sponsored by the Mead Public Library, to be held in the library’s charming Loft, will feature readings, oneon one conversations with club members and other local writers and a bit of celebratory refreshment.

All writers who have ever attended a Sheboygan County Writers’ Club meeting, as well as those who have never given the club a thought, are welcome to join in the commemoration of this accomplishment. The event will begin at 2 p.m.

Club authors who write children’s books are planning a special reading session of their children’s stories starting at 4 p.m.

From 4:30 until 6 p.m., an open mic event will allow club members and visitors to enjoy five minutes of fame by reading a brief section of their own creative writing.

Conversations with club members will also provide an excellent way for non-members to learn more about the club.
