Prahl, Woelfel earn sectional berth in doubles

WEST BEND – Seniors Kayla Prahl and Kaylee Woelfel of Plymouth advanced to Division 1 girls sectional tennis action at No. 1 doubles.

The Panther duo earned the sectional berth after advancing to the semifinals in Tuesday’s subsectional meet at West Bend East. The semifinalists in the No. 1 singles and doubles flights, and the finalists in singles and doubles for the Nos. 2-4 flights advanced to sectional play which was scheduled to be held Oct. 5.

Prahl and Woelfel (14-12 record this season) advanced to the semifinals with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 win over a Slinger team in the first round.

“The second and third sets were vintage Kayla and Kaylee with great, angled volleys, strong lobs off of the serve to set up the points, and hustle all over the court by both Panther seniors,” said PHS head coach Scott Milslagle.

“We were very close to sending all three doubles teams to the sectionals as well as a couple singles players. Overall, the team played very well in this subsectional tournament and can hold their heads up high,” said Milslagle.

PHS finished third in the eight team tournament with 10 points. Slinger captured first with 20.

Plymouth’s other subsectional competitors included: Alayna Wilderman at No. 1 singles; Amanda Krueger, No. 2 singles; Ashley Batzner, No. 3 singles; Katie Benedict, No. 4 singles; Ellie Potrykus and Savannah Wiese at No. 2 doubles; and Catherine Williamson and Hannah Stucke, No. 3 doubles.

Wilderman and Benedict lost their first-round matches. Krueger and Batzner won their first-round matches and lost in the semifinals.

Potrykus and Wiese triumphed in first-round play and fell in the semifinals. Williamson and Stucke earned a first-round victory before losing in the semifinals.
