Panthers stretch winning streak to five

RIPON – The Plymouth Panthers ran their winning streak to five with a 3-0 win over the Ripon Tigers in East Central Lakeshore Conference action here Tuesday afternoon.

PHS improved to 11-3-1 overall. The Panthers are tied for first in the league standings with Waupun and Kettle Moraine Lutheran (Jackson) at 6-1 going into the inaugural ECC Tournament which was scheduled to begin Oct. 5.

For the tourney, the four teams with the best conference records in the regular season will play each other in the up- per division and the other four will compete against each other in the lower division. The ECC champion will be from the upper division and will have the best overall conference record, including tourney play.

The Panthers took a 1-0 lead versus Ripon on a goal by Clayton Lautenschlaeger at the 26:05 mark. Keegan Gafney’s goal at 37:32, assisted by Brady Petrie, put PHS up 2-0 at halftime.

Anthony Vargas tallied the third goal on an assist by Eric Preissner at the 79:03 mark.

PHS dominated on the attack – holding a 16-1 edge in shots on goal. Panther goalie Gabe Thull made one save. Tiger goalie Nick Bruesewitz had 13 saves.

“The game was difficult. Ripon is a team that always defends well and we had a tough time breaking their defense during the game,” said PHS head coach Rommy Herrera.
