County road projects updated

Work goes on on four different highway projects in the county, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) northeast region office in Green Bay.

On the State 32 resurfacing project, asphalt paving will be completed this week. Rumble strips will be started along the shoulders and centerline. Gravel shoulders will be started as well.

The 7.3-mile, $1.9 million project on State 32 from the north limit of the village of Howards Grove to State 57 is scheduled for completion next month.

The project includes milling the existing pavement and overlaying with asphalt. The existing paved shoulders will be widened from three feet to five feet and shoulder gravel will be added. Shoulder and centerline rumble strips will be installed along with new pavement marking.

State 32 and side roads will remain open to traffic except with temporary lane closures using flagging operations in the immediate area of work.

On the State 144 reconditioning project, the curb and gutter will be finished and concrete driveways will begin. Asphalt paving will resume. The 6.85-mile, $5 million project from State 28 in Silver Creek to State 57 in Random Lake is scheduled for completion next month.

Work consists of milling and resurfacing 6.85 miles of State 144 and widening the travel lanes by two feet, widening shoulders, replacing curb and gutter, replacing storm sewer in Silver Creek, replacing culverts, updating existing beam guard, flattening side slopes, and upgrading several intersections.

State 144 is closed from Carroll Street to State 28 for the duration of the project. Local access to the project will be allowed at various side streets.

The detour is north along State 28, east on County A and south on State 57.

On the Interstate 43 resurfacing project, the contractor will clean up the jobsite and fix shoulder areas where needed this week. They will remove traffic control. The 6.9-mile, $6.2 million project from the Sheboygan/Manitowoc county line to the State 42/I-43 interchange is scheduled for completion in November.

The project consists of concrete base patching of I-43 mainline, milling two inches of asphalt pavement and placing four inches of new asphalt pavement, ramp resurfacing at the I-43/State 42 interchange, culvert replacement, signing, and pavement marking.

There will be single lane closures of northbound and southbound I-43 during construction, leaving one lane of traffic open for motorists in various segments of the project work zone. However, lane closures will be removed during peak travel times on the weekend.

This week on State 42 (Calumet Drive) in the city of Sheboygan, the contractor will finish sanitary sewer upgrades and storm sewer installation along State 42 (Calumet Drive) southbound lanes between North Avenue and 26th Street. They will remove the existing concrete and begin underground work along North Avenue westbound lanes, west of Calumet Drive. They will finish placing base aggregate and begin to place concrete pavement along State 42 (Calumet Drive) southbound lanes, Main Avenue and 25th Street.

They will continue concrete joint repair work along the outside lanes and start drainage improvements along State 42 between Mueller Road and I-43. They will continue permanent signal upgrades at the State 42 and County J/DL intersection.

The 1.5-mile, $3.3 million project, set to be finished this month. includes full reconstruction of State 42 from Main Avenue to 26th Street, a total length of one-half mile, and pavement rehabilitation of State 42 from Mueller Road to I-43, a total length of 1 mile.

Work consists of earthwork and grading, water main, sanitary sewer and storm sewer, base aggregate, concrete pavement, concrete pavement repair, concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk, street lighting, traffic signals, landscaping, pavement markings, and sign replacement.
