Huskies capture EWC championship

NEW HOLSTEIN – The New Holstein/Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Huskies earned the Eastern Wisconsin Conference boys soccer title with a 2-0 win over visiting St. Mary Catholic (Neenah) on Senior Night Tuesday.

The Huskies finished 7-4 in conference play which includes matches versus EWC and Big East Conference opponents. NH/ EL-G was 3-0 in the EWC with one win each against Sheboygan Falls, Kiel and Manitowoc Ron- calli/Two Rivers.

“A very wet but good night for the Huskies again tonight at home and Senior Night,” said Husky head coach Steve Conrad whose team is 8-10-1 overall.

“I would personally like to thank all the seniors for working so hard and being such great role models for the rest of the team.”

The Huskies scored their two goals in the first half. Oren Kestell ‘s goal came at the 9:18 mark and Noah Ruh’s tally was at 27:28.

NH/EL-G led in shots on goal, 15-6. Husky goalies Kyle Lutzke and Deegan Kossman combined for five saves.

SMC, a BEC member, dropped to 3-7 in league play (4- 12-2 overall).
