Norman Albert Schneiter, 87, of Glenbeulah passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 12, 2017.

Norman was born on January 14, 1930, in the Town of Lomira, a son of the late Ernst and Hilda Schneiter. He was the 3rd of 12 children and grew up in the villages of Knowles and Leroy. He grew up in town helping his father at the cheese factory and with chores at home until he was twelve, when he started working on farms to supplement the family income.

Norman served with the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army in North Carolina from 1948 to 1950 and then in Anchorage and Fairbanks until 1952. He was a company cook during most of that time. Norman met Lorraine Kratz at a dance at the Eagles Club in Oshkosh while home on furlough in November 1951. They wrote letters back and forth until Norman was discharged in March. They married in a simple ceremony on August 9, 1952 in Dubuque, Iowa. They bought their first house in Oshkosh, where Norman worked at Wisconsin Axle. Wanting to be more independent, Norman quit his factory job to try farming. Norman and Lorraine bought a dairy farm in the town of Greenbush in 1958, which they operated until 1998. Norman and Lorraine were married for 58 years. Lorraine preceded him in death in 2011.

Norman was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed dancing with Lorraine, fishing in his pond, deer hunting, snowmobiling, cooking, playing cards and visiting with relatives and neighbors. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to his children. He always had stories and words of wisdom to share with his children and grandchildren, who will miss him greatly.

Norman is survived by his 5 children: Linda (Elden) Sellin of Sun Prairie, Gail (Ron) Goldmann of Sheboygan, Lorna (Rich) Roth of Pulaski, Sharon (Mike) Savignac of DePere, and Norm (Ann) Schneiter of Glenbeulah. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Adam (Lauren Zepp) Sellin, Laura (Theo) Schultz, David (Tami) Goldmann, Dan (Kelly) Goldmann, Melissa (Eric) Visel, Hannah (Matt) Zey, Amber, Rachel, Benjamin and Joshua Roth, Maddie, Michael and John Savignac, Branden (Julie) Schneiter, Brittany Schneiter, Ashley Dang and Stephany (Emerson) Marr. He is also survived by his great grandchildren: Elijah, Zachary, Nathaniel, Lydia, Jonah, Henry, Arlo, Jordan, Julia, Landyn, Jesse, Jeremiah, Ellyanna and LaReyna; and his brothers James Schneiter of Horicon, Jay Schneiter of Oconto Falls and Kenny Schneiter of Horicon; his sisters Lillian Wondra of Mayville, Geraldine (Willie) Zirbel of Mayville and Georgia Schneiter of Waupun; his brothers-in-law and sistersin law, Gerald Stern, Lillian Schneiter, Kathleen Schneiter, Ruth (Clair) Retzlaff and Ray Marks; and his good friend and dancing partner Marilyn Dvoracheck of Brillion. In addition to his wife Lorraine, he was preceded in death by his brothers Maynard, Orville, Milford and Gerald and a sister Donna Mae Stern.
