Emergency drill Saturday

Plymouth-area agencies are collaborating on an emergency response drill scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds. For safety reasons, the training scene will be closed to the public.

“Though we all hope to be prepared mentally and physically, we realize that a large catastrophic event can occur at any time,” said Deputy Police Chief Christopher Ringel. “We see it on TV, and we hear what went right and wrong.”

Accordingly, the purpose of the exercise is to give local agencies the opportunity to work through the logistics associated with dealing with a large accident involving multiple casualties. The scenario involves injuries to students on a school bus that collided with a semi truck.

Participants have been preparing for the joint training exercise for about a year, and have already gone through an accident scene simulation and a command center simulation.

At least 26 area agencies are involved in the training exercise, including: Plymouth Police Department, Plymouth Fire Department, Plymouth School District, Orange Cross Ambulance, Sheboygan Fire Department, Sheboygan County Communications Center, Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department, Sheboygan County Public Health Department, Sheboygan County Medical Examiner’s Office, Oostburg Ambulance, Random Lake Ambulance, Kiel Ambulance Service, Town of Sheboygan Falls Fire Department, Cascade Fire Department, Elkhart Lake Fire Department, Town of Sheboygan Falls First Responders, Cascade First Responders, Elkhart Lake First Responders, Glenbeulah First Responders, St. Nicholas Hospital, Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, Aurora Grafton Medical Center, St. Agnes Hospital - Fond du Lac, Johnson Bus Company, Sheboygan County Highway Department and the Plymouth Public Works Department.
