Ski team seeks new members

The Northern Kettle Moraine Nordic Storm Cross Country Ski Team, sponsored by the NKMN Ski Club brings approximately 45 Gr. 5-12 participants together from east-central Wisconsin each year.

The purpose of the team is to develop lifetime cross country skiers. The team’s mission is to come together to learn good Nordic ski and waxing techniques, stay in shape, compete as a team, meet other skiers and to have fun.

The team is part of the Wisconsin Nordic Ski League (WNSL), consisting of 24 school- and club-sponsored teams from across the state and has scheduled 10-12 weekend ski trips and competitive meets from mid-December through early March.

The team practices on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30 p.m. at the Greenbush Trails, beginning in November. The team does dry- land training until there is enough skiable snow. The team is coached by a group of veteran cross country skiers, headed by Steve Scharrer.

The program is open to boys and girls in grades 5-12 who do not have conflicts with other winter sports. The team is especially seeking more skiers in grades 5-8.
