Kettle Karver Tree auction to benefit Meals on Wheels

The famous Kettle Karver Christmas Tree remembered from the Festival of Trees is back as a one-of-a-kind tree available through silent auc- tion to benefit Fresh Meals On Wheels of Sheboygan County.

More than 40 Kettle Karver Club members took time over the past year to carve “wheelthemed” wooden ornaments to fill a pre-lit Christmas tree donated by Caan’s Floral & Greenhouses.

The 7-foot tree hosts 200 hand-carved wooden ornaments, which were skillfully placed by Kettle Karver volunteers.

The carved items include fruits and vegetables on wheels, airplanes, a 30-car train, Santa on a sled and many more.

The tree is available for viewing and bidding at Caan’s Floral & Greenhouses, located at 4422 South 12th St. in Sheboygan, from now through Sunday, Dec. 10.

“We just like to give back to the community and we can all stand behind a cause like feeding our homebound neighbors,” said Don Lorier, active Kettle Karver member.

In addition to viewing the tree, those shopping at Caan’s this holiday season have a unique opportunity to support Fresh Meals On Wheels another way as well.

They may add a couple of dollars to their purchases, which will go to Fresh Meals On Wheels to help provide warm meals for homebound, senior and disabled residents throughout Sheboygan County.

“We are very proud to be partnering with Fresh Meals On Wheels and being part of this event,” said Kris Shepard, owners of Caan’s Floral & Greenhouses. “The service they provide our community is so important for so many of our county residents on a daily basis. We hope it will be a huge success.”

Fresh Meals On Wheels currently serves more than 300 people daily.

In addition to a warm, homemade dinner, meal recipients are visited by a friendly volunteer who takes time to notice if the home is too cold, the lights aren’t working, or anything seems amiss.

If the volunteer notices a problem, the Meals On Wheels staff jumps into action to deliver “More Than a Meal” to ensure each person served is home and safe.
