First-half surge sparks Tigers’ rout

HOWARDS GROVE – The Howards Grove Tigers rolled to a 39-11 halftime lead en route to a 60-31 dismantling of the Algoma Wolves in nonconference boys basketball play here Saturday afternoon.

The Tigers raised their record to 2-0 while the Wolves dropped to 0-1.

Senior forward Eric Reinemann and senior guard Jack Baldwin led the Tigers’ charge in the first half with 13 and nine points, respectively. Reinemann finished the game with a doubledouble – leading his team in scor- ing with 18 and rebounding, 10.

Justin Miller contributed 14 points for HG off the bench. Will Rautmann and Baldwin led in steals with three each. Baldwin had a team-high seven assists.

“Right from the start we attacked their defense to get some good looks and we were fortunate to convert those. Algoma switched to a zone and we were able to knock down outside shots which opened up things in the middle later on,” said Tiger head coach Wade Georgeff.

“Overall, I was very pleased with how we played. We rebounded well, were very unselfish and limited our turnovers.”

The Tigers had only six turnovers and had an outstanding 11 offensive boards.
