Kohler breezes past Resorters in BEC opener

The contest was the Big East Conference debut for both teams and Kohler’s season opener. The Resorters slipped to 1-1 overall.

The Bombers shot a blistering 62 percent (29 of 47) from the field and were an excellent 55 percent (6 of 11) from threepoint range. Kohler scored several baskets on fast breaks, including many off steals.

Kohler’s full-court press and half-court defense gave Elkhart fits. The Bombers had an impressive 21 steals and surrendered few open shots.

The Bombers busted out to a 15-3 lead at the 12:42 mark in the first half, led by senior forward Sean Farrell’s six points. Kohler built a 50-16 halftime lead, keyed by the 1-2 punch from Ben Maki and Carter Gebler who scored 16 and 15, respectively.

Maki, a senior guard, Gebler, a sophomore guard, and Farrell led Kohler’s attack with 18 points each. Gebler was an outstanding 4-for-5 from threepoint land and scored three treys in the first half.

Joe Bugbee and Tyler Ruminski paced the Bombers in steals with four each. Gebler led in assists with four.

The Resorters’ top scorer was senior guard Dante Miller with 10, including three treys.
