Coping workshop scheduled

People with chronic health issues can learn simple tools to improve their quality of life through an upcoming workshop: Living Well with Chronic Conditions.

The workshop will meet for two and a half hours, for six weeks, on Monday, Jan. 8 to Feb. 12, 2018, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Senior Activity Center of Sheboygan, 428 Wisconsin Ave., Sheboygan. Trained leaders Kerri Robertson and Bonnie Markus will facilitate the workshop.

Living Well with Chronic Conditions, created at Stanford University, empowers those living with conditions like arthritis, heart disease, asthma, stroke, pain, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, emphysema, cancer or other conditions and helps them take control of their situation through:

• Symptom management.

• Dealing with anger, depression and other emotions.

• Goal setting and problem solving.

• Improving nutrition and developing a suitable exercise program.

• Medication management.

• Breathing exercises and managing stress.

• Communicating with family, friends and health care professionals.

The workshop has been proven to reduce hospitalizations and other medical problems.

The workshop is free with the option to purchase the $20 handbook, “Living a Healthy Life with a Chronic Condition.”

The workshop is sponsored by the Senior Activity Center of Sheboygan and the Sheboygan County Aging and Disability Resource Center. Registration is limited. Please register by Jan. 5. To register, call (920) 459-3290.
