JOHN F. FINLAN

John F. “Jack” Finlan, 82, Green Bay, died unexpectedly from a massive heart attack on Tuesday, December 12, 2017.

He was born on July 6, 1935, in Trenary, MI to Francis and Lucille (Peterson) Finlan.

Jack graduated from Trenary High School, Class of 1954. He started working at a young age in his dad’s Red Owl store. Jack served with the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 and was stationed in Germany. Upon returning from the service, he continued in the grocery business. On November 17, 1962, Jack married Arlene Aho. Jack managed many grocery stores throughout the state including Red Owl, Sure Way, Festival Foods, and Jubilee, retiring in the late 1990’s.

In his “retirement” years, he made a career move to the laundry dept. at St. Vincent Hospital where he discovered a whole new work family in a job that he enjoyed to the fullest. In Jack’s spare time, he enjoyed running his produce stands in Grafton, WI and years later at the farm in his home town of Trenary, MI. Jack was always on the move. He loved puttering around the house, cheering for his beloved grandchildren, and watching the Brewers.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Arlene; three children, Roxanne (Jeff) Anderson, Vicki Finlan (Chris Wals), John (Kristin) Finlan; seven grandchildren: Avery, Libby, and Ruby Anderson; Lucille “Luci” Hoitink- Finlan; Estelle, Kamden, and Hudson Finlan; his siblings, Pat (John) Ziegler, Doug (Judy) Finlan, Ann (Andy) Freberg, Mary Jo (Jim) Landry; sister-inlaw, Pat Finlan; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends, too numerous to mention.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roger Finlan; and many loving in-laws.

Visitation continued at St. Rita Catholic Church, N1059 E. 1st Ave., Trenary, MI from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, December 18. The Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with Rev. Fr. Joseph V. Augustine officiating. Skradski Funeral Home is assisting with the Michigan services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jack’s name.
