Ruth “Ruthie” Voyt passed away Friday, December 15th peacefully at home surrounded by family.

She was born July 22, 1929 in Sheboygan Falls, WI to Tobias and Teressia Keippel. She was a 1947 graduate of Sheboygan Falls High School and continued her education at St. Vincent’s Infant and Maternity Hospital in Chicago, IL

While completing her education, she was approached by the Thompson family to take on the position of nanny to their children in both Minocqua, WI and Fort Lauderdale, FL.

While in Minocqua, she met her husband to-be, Kenneth Voyt and was married in May of 1951 in Sheboygan Falls, WI and they made their home and raised their family in Woodruff, WI.

She and Ken owned and operated The Beachway Drive-In in downtown Minocqua, which was a popular hangout for locals, tourists, and camp kids alike.

In later years, Ruth was a very active member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where she volunteered her time as a member of the Church Auxiliary. She loved to entertain in her home, garden, bake. She was an avid bowler and an active member of The Woods Cafe Bowling Team for 35 years as well as someone who would never turn down a good game of cards.

In her retirement years, Ruth met Art Bawden who was her companion for 28 years. Ruth and Art made their home on Lake Minocqua and enjoyed their winters in Naples, FL. They both enjoyed boating in the summer and spending time with all their new friends in the Sunshine State.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, her parents Tobias and Teressia Keippel, her siblings John, Lydia, Hilda, and Helen. She is survived by her loving companion Art Bawden, her three children Thomas Voyt, Cindy (Dan) Zarling, Sandy (Brian) Olson, and six grandchildren Jake (Lacie) Zarling, Josh (Miranda) Zarling, Lindsey (Ryan) Jacobi, Caitlin Olson, Max Bawden, and Rebecca Smith, and two great-grandchildren Kayleb and Kennidy.

Services were held at Calvary Lutheran Church on Tuesday, December 19 on Hwy 51, Minocqua, WI.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ministry Home Care Hospice or Calvary Lutheran Church. Bolgers Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. Please visit
