Citizen Academy to be offered

The Sheboygan Police Department will be hosting its 23rd annual Citizen Academy starting Tuesday, March 13, and concluding Tuesday, May 22.

The Citizen Academy will be held Tuesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. and is an 11-week course.

The academy is designed to be interactive through lectures, demonstrations and practical exercises. The purpose of the academy is to provide stakeholders of the city of Sheboygan an understanding of the police department and its functions and to enhance the relationships between the community and the department.

Participants will be exposed to many areas of police work, including the hiring process, current departmental initiatives, police investigations, use of force, and the legal system.

Applications can be submitted online at Applications can be downloaded, mailed or dropped off at the Sheboygan Police Department, 1315 N. 23rd St. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have no felony convictions. Background checks will be conducted on all applicants. Application deadline is Feb. 23.
