Tigers rally to earn overtime win

FOND DU LAC – The Howards Grove Tigers gutted out a 67-63 overtime win over host Fond du Lac St. Mary’s Springs Tuesday night to stay unbeaten in boys basketball play.

The nonconference victory raised the Tigers’ record to 11- 0. The Ledgers slipped to 5-4.

HG rallied from 10 points down in the final three minutes of regulation to force overtime with the game tied at 55-55. The Tigers outscored Springs 12-8 in the overtime period, led by Blake Pedrin’s seven points on a trey and four free throws.

Pedrin finished the game with a career-high 27 points, including six three-balls, to spark the Tigers who were minus their top scorer this season in senior forward Eric Reinemann due to the flu. Pedrin had a team-best 15 points in the second half.

Jack Baldwin and Derek Stauss contributed 20 and 18 points, respectively. Stauss also had a team-high 10 rebounds.

“This [comeback to win the game] says a lot about the heart and character of this team. It does a lot for the confidence of all the guys. A win like this can propel teams to do some pretty special things later on in the season,” said Tiger head coach Wade Georgeff.

The Tigers improved to 8-3 overall in junior varsity-1 action with a 42-32 win.

Kaden Summerville led HG in scoring with 16 and Kaeden Roethel hit 11. The Tigers’ defense forced 23 turnovers.
