The game was the Big East Conference regular-season finale for both teams. The Tigers improved to 8-5 in the BEC (11-7 overall) while the Resorters dropped to 2-11 (5- 13 overall).

The Tigers’ full-court press and trapping gave Elkhart fits in the first half – forcing several turnovers which led to many baskets. HG scored four layups off steals during the 21-2 spurt which occurred in the first five minutes.

The Resorters committed eight turnovers during HG’s run. Mackenzie Holzwart and Maddy Near scored six points each to lead the Tigers’ attack during the stretch, followed by Zayla Mueller’s five.

Kayla Bender paced the Tigers’ strong rebounding night with a season-best 12.

Ellie Ausloos led Elkhart scorers with 14 and Kianna Bahr tallied 11. Bahr had a team-high seven boards and four steals. Ausloos contributed three steals and a team-best three assists.

“It was a great team effort. We were really balanced [on offense] and I really like to see that balance,” said Tiger head coach Heidi Georgeff.

“Our quick start definitely helped. When our press works for us, it creates offense and that’s when we play our best. Our press created high-percentage scoring opportunities around the basket.

“Courtney, Sara [Marten], Kayla and Maddy really worked well inside [on offense],” said Georgeff.

“They played phenomenal defense. When they extend their defense we got in a panic mode,” said Resorter head coach Donny Kulow.

“They’re very athletic, and they run the floor well and finish [shots]. They outhustled us for loose balls and rebounds. Their defense is key. They make it very hard with their man-to-man defense.”

JV GAME

The Tigers won the junior varsity-1 game, 33-11. HG led 25-7 at halftime.

Madelyn Koenig led HG in scoring with 13 points. Karissa Entringer paced Elkhart with seven.
