PHS to present musical, dedicate stage to director

Tickets go on sale Feb. 12 for the Plymouth High School presentation of the Tony-winning Broadway musical "42ndStreet."

The musical tells the story of young Peggy Sawyer, an aspiring chorus girl, who lands in the ensemble of the musical "Pretty Lady." Through a series of misfortunes in the show, Peggy becomes a Broadway star.

“Lullaby of Broadway,” “You're Getting to be a Habit with Me,” and “We're in the Money” are some of the great songs in this tap-dancing musical comedy. “42nd Street,” based on the 1933 musical, opened on Broadway in 1980, won the Tony for Best Musical, and ran for nine years. It won a Tony for Best Revival in 2001 and is currently playing in London.

The PHS show is directed by Amanda Smith and Herb Stoltenberg, with band direction by Jason Sebranek, choreography by Lori Schmitt, costumes by Eileen Brooks, and technical direction by Gary Kaiser. The musical is double cast.

Reserved-seat tickets go on sale Monday, Feb. 12 in the Plymouth High School office. Any remaining tickets will be available at the door before each performance.

Shows will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 1; Friday, March 2; and Saturday, March 3; with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4 in the Plymouth High School Auditorium, 125 Highland Ave.

Please note that the 7 p.m. show time is earlier than in recent years. A celebration of PHS performing arts will be held at the conclusion of each show, including formal dedication of the Herb Stoltenberg Stage after the Saturday night performance.
