Holzwart powers Tigers to victory in BEC Tourney

NEENAH – Freshman guard Mackenzie Holzwart poured in 21 points to propel the Howards Grove Tigers past host St. Mary Catholic, 57-48, in the Big East Conference Girls Basketball Tournament’s upper division.

The victory gives the Tigers seventh place. HG upped its record to 12-9 while the Zephyrs slipped to 12-9.

We rebounded well as a team, took care of the basketball and shot a decent percentage from the field at 40 percent,” said Tiger head coach Heidi Georgeff.

“Courtney Binversie had her best game of the season. She finished with seven points and six rebounds and really played well in her time on the court.”

Holzwart also led HG in rebounds with 10 and shared the lead in steals with Leah Parnitzke with three each. Parnitzke had a team-high three assists.

“Maddy Near rebounded well, especially in crunch time,” said Georgeff.

Near contributed seven boards.
