Ants inspire UW-S exhibit

The University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan Fine Arts Gallery invites the community to visit the campus for the latest Fine Arts Gallery art exhibition, Representation of an Ant Colony: Paintings by Wisconsin artist Kiefer Ledell.

A special artist reception is planned for Friday, Feb. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. The show currently is open and runs through March 30.

Kiefer Ledell is a visual artist working in Milwaukee. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Peck School of the Arts in 2012. Representation of an Ant Colony is an ongoing series stemming from a childhood interest in entomology and ants in particular. Kiefer Ledell uses the visual language he has created around the ants to explore themes of community, social society, interaction, and sexuality. He also uses the series as a vehicle for experimentation in his artistic process; focusing on medium, texture, color, repetition, composition, and style.

The Fine Arts Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information about the show or UW-Sheboygan's Fine Arts Gallery, contact Gallery Director Dan Smith at UW-Sheboygan is located at One University Drive in Sheboygan.
