EL-G Middle School Band in concert with 1st Brigade Band

The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Middle School Band will be welcoming the Watertown-based, 1st Brigade Band to the High School Mauk Auditorium at 7 p.m. Friday, March 2. Admission is free.

The 1st Brigade Band breathes life into history by presenting authentic music performed on antique instruments. Attired in period uniforms and gowns, the band’s musicians and vivandieres take their audience back to that turbulent era known as the Civil War. A nostalgic portrayal of the atmosphere of days long gone by is generated by a unique form of showmanship that blends the sights and sounds of the period with historical accounts, anecdotes, tales and legends.

The 1st Brigade repertoire includes selections from extant books of Union and Confederate bands, from manuscripts and from original sheet music of the period.

Also appearing on the evening’s concert will be the Elkhart Lake- Glenbeulah Middle School Band performing a number of selections. In addition to the concert, members of the 1st Brigade Band will be conducting workshops with the students March 2. Together they will investigate how the instruments were constructed and function of the band in society during the period of the Civil War.

This concert is presented with support from the Kohler Foundation.
