Top-seeded Lourdes rolls past EL-G in regional

OSHKOSH – The Oshkosh Lourdes Academy Knights exploded for 11 three-point goals to highlight a 71-18 rout over Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah in a Division 5 girls regional basketball semifinal game here Friday night.

Top-seeded Lourdes, ranked No. 7 in the Associated Press D-5 poll, improved to 19-5 with a 76-50 trouncing of No. 5-seeded Oakfield in the finals Saturday night.

The No. 8-seeded Resorters ended their season with a 6-18 record.

Point guard Alexis Rolph led a balanced Lourdes attack with 15 points. The Knights were an outstanding 11 of 23 (48 percent) from three-point range. They shot an excellent 56 percent from the floor overall.

“We ran into a very good and well balanced Lourdes Academy team – great shooting and post play,” said Resorter head coach Donny Kulow.

“We just struggled on both ends. We gave up dribble penetration and we did not get out on the shooters. They had five different players hit three-point shots.”

Sophomore forward Shannon De Vries came off the bench and led Elkhart in scoring and rebounds with six each. De Vries shared the steal lead with Kianna Bahr at two.

“I think we gained valuable experience for our young players and I am proud of the seniors for making it to the semifinals. We come so close the last couple years and just would come up short,” said Kulow.

“Shannon De Vries [up from the junior varsity team] came in and played very well for her first extended varsity minutes this year. She played in place of Megan Flora who has been playing with a foot injury the last couple weeks and could not go versus Lourdes.

“Alex Schneider played the point versus a good and lengthy defender in Alexis Rolph and did a nice job taking care of the ball,” Kulow said.
