He was also selected to the 2017 All-Midwest Conference first team at wide receiver. – Photo by Tyler Luedtke Samuel Staehling, a 2016 Plymouth High School graduate, was named a 2017 firstteam College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) NCAA Division III Football Academic All- American.

Staehling is the first sophomore in any sport in St. Norbert College (De Pere) history to be named a firstteam CoSIDA Academic All- American. Staehling, a standout wide receiver the past two seasons for the Green Knights is also the only sophomore among this year’s first-team selections.

To be eligible for national or regional selection, a student athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.0, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his current institution and be nominated by his sports information director.


SAMUEL STAEHLING SAMUEL STAEHLING The Academic All- America team is selected after All-District teams are picked from eight geographic regions nationally.

Staehling was also named to the first team of the 2017 Division III Academic All- District VI football team.

He owns a perfect 4.00 grade- point average with a major in biology/pre-medicine.

Staehling hauled in a St. Norbert-record 16 touchdown receptions in 2017. He totaled 41 receptions overall for 916 yards, good for a 22.3 average per reception – all team-highs.

A Dean’s List student and Academic All-Midwest Conference honoree, Staehling was a first-team All-MWC choice in 2017. He was the MWC Newcomer of the Year in 2016 and earned the MWC Elite 20 Award for football in 2017.

This past season Staehling also led the Green Knights in scoring with 96 points on 16 TDs. He led the conference in TD catches with eight in MWC action and was second in receiving yards with 517 (21.5 average per catch).

In just two seasons, Staehling has 25 TD receptions to rank him third in St. Norbert history. He also has 72 receptions for 1,615 yards in his career.

The Green Knights won the MWC North Division last fall with a 5-0 record and finished 7-3 overall. They lost to Monmouth College (Illinois) in the MWC championship game, 9-6, in overtime.
