Rape kits

To the Editor,

In 2015, Attorney General Brad Schimel’s Wisconsin Department of Justice applied for and was awarded four million dollars in grants to pay for a backlog of 6,000 rape case kits. The state later received 3.1 million in federal grants to aid these efforts. In February of 2017, Schimel acknowledged nine (9) rape kits had been tested.

In February of this year Attorney General Brad Schimel reported the Wisconsin Department of Justice has prosecuted a grand total of one (1) rape case as a result of rape kit testing. That’s right, one prosecution.

What a colossal failure for Wisconsin women. We can do better than this.
