Learning wrestling basics

Participants in the Plymouth Area Wrestling Club’s kindergarten through grade 3 session practice wrestling moves during a practice Feb. 27 at Plymouth High School. This year’s program for K-8 drew 50 youths. The coaches taught basic wrestling fundamentals to the K-3 wrestlers such as taking down an opponent and advanced-level wrestling techniques, including complex moves, to grades 4-8. “For anyone that has been involved in wrestling, they know it takes a lot of work to be successful. You can’t just hope to have a competitive high school team. You need to spend time with the youngsters. Teach them you can work and have fun in the wrestling room,” said CJ Wiese, one of the program’s coaches.
