Panthers open at Oshkosh Invite

OSHKOSH – The Plymouth boys track team open its indoor season Tuesday at the Oshkosh Invitational large school meet in the Kolf Center at UW-Oshkosh.

“This is a quite competitive meet for us and this gives our boys varsity an opening season measuring stick,” said Panther head coach Jay Grosshuesch.

“With only six official practices for these guys, they will certainly improve significantly from these performances.

“Highlights included Derek Novotny’s long jump going over 20 feet and Derek Holec and Jaxsen Schermacher just missed scoring places in the high jump and pole vault, respectively. In the running events, Mack Mella had a very solid 400-meter race,” said Grosshuesch.

Novotny scored the Panthers’ only team point with an eighth-place finish in the long jump at 20-2½.

Holec tied for 12th in the high jump with a 5-8 effort. There was a four-way tie for eighth at 5-8 (on misses). Schermacher went 11-0 in the pole vault which gave him a share of ninth. The eighth place height was 11-0 (on misses).

Mella’s time in the 400 was 54.98 seconds, good for 11th.

Kimberly won the 20-team meet with 89.25 points.

PHS will compete in the Sheboygan North Invitational boys indoor meet Saturday at 9 a.m. On Friday, March 16, PHS will participate in the North Invitational girls indoor meet at 4 p.m.
