County loan fund aids two new firms

Sheboygan County’s revolving loan fund is being invested in two new county businesses; both which will create new jobs in the county.

Safety Fresh Foods, LLC of Plymouth will soon begin serving area food customers with high-pressure pasteurization (HPP) from their new facility in the former Borden’s facility. HPP is a cold pasteurization technique by which products, already sealed in its final package, are introduced into a vessel and subjected to a high level of isostatic pressure transmitted by water.

Safety Fresh Foods is owned by Sam Maglio, Jr. and Mark Maglio, representing the fourth and fifth generation of a family business that started when Gia- como Maglio traveled door-todoor in Chicago with a pushcart overflowing with the best of the day’s offerings from the market.

Lakeshore Pallet of Howards Grove has been acquired by Mike and Kay Hannes. Mike Hannes previously serves as Lakeshore’s Production Manager. Lakeshore Pallet was previously owned by Mark and Beverly Bender, who will be working with the Hannes during the transition. The company specializes in heat-treated pallets that meet ISPM compliance.

“It is great to see a combination of new product innovation as well as business expansion through existing technology,” noted Sheboygan County Board Chairman Thomas Wegner. “Both companies will help grow the employment base in Sheboygan County.”

Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation serves as administrator for the Sheboygan County revolving loan fund. Applicants are required to complete a business plan, as well as achieve specific employment requirements.
