Cozy Quilts Story Activity at Wade House Center

Wade House and Bookworm Gardens will host a family program titled “Cozy Quilts Story and Activity Time” at the Wade House Visitor Center Saturday, April 14 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

During the story and activity time, families with children between 5 to 10 years of age will discover tales of quilts and coverlets. This family program will include storytelling, crafts and other fun activities that tie into the art of quilting.

The fun will begin when participants listen to and enjoy a great picture book about quilts, with lots of wonderful illustrations. Participants are encouraged to bring their own favorite, cozy blanket to nestle in as they listen to the story. After listening to the book and talking about how quilts are made, participants will get the opportunity to create their very own quilt blocks out of colorful paper.

Additional fun activities will focus on old patchwork patterns with their beautiful designs and interesting names that tell us how people lived when our country was still young and growing. Families will churn butter as they discover the “Churn Dash” patchwork quilt pattern and assemble a carriage wheel as they learn about the “Buggy Wheel” patchwork design.

“Cozy Quilts Story and Activity Time” is being held in conjunction with a special exhibit titled “Over Land, Under Cover: Tales of Quilts and Coverlets and their Journeys to Wisconsin, 1830-1880”, which is currently on display at the Wade House visitor center.

The family program is included in the cost of general admission to Wade House visitor center. Admission is: adults $7; students/ senior citizens $6; children (5-17) $3.50; family (2 adults and two or more dependent children ages 5 - 17) $19. Admission includes access to the “Cozy Quilts Story and Activity Time”; the exhibit “Over Land, Under Cover: Tales of Quilts & Coverlets and their Journeys to Wisconsin, 1830 – 1880”; and the Wesley W. Jung Carriage Museum.
