County Board fills committees

SHEBOYGAN – The County Board completed its reorganization for the coming two years Tuesday.

The board approved appointments to eight committees, with the newly-constituted committees then meeting to elect officers and set meeting dates and times.

The appointments by the board’s Executive Committee – elected by the supervisors a week earlier – were approved unanimously.

County Board Chair Tom Wegner noted that, while he and the Executive Committee tried to honor all of the supervisor’s wishes in the committee appointments, it was impossible to meet all of them.

He pointed out that there are 25 supervisors who each listed several committee preferences and a total of 46 committee positions to fill.

“As you can imagine, we can’t give everybody what they want,” Wegner commented. As an example, he cited the five-member Law Committee, which nine supervisors indicated was either their first or second choice for assignment.

Wegner pointed out that 23 of the 25 supervisors were named to their first or second choice committee.

“The bottom line is that this is all about the people of Sheboygan County. This is about doing what’s best for Sheboygan County,” Wegner told the board.

County Administrator Adam Payne distributed a list of county committees, boards and commissions with openings for both supervisors and county citizens. He urged the supervisors to consider serving on those panels and to suggest citizen appointments as well.
