As lovely as a tree

The city of Plymouth marked its 25th year as a designated Tree City USA Wednesday with an Arbor Day celebration at St. John Lutheran School. With Mayor Donald Pohlman leading the ceremonies (above), second grade students at the school learned about the many benefits of trees, even in the urban forest, from the mayor, Director of Public Works Cathy Austin and DNR Forester Olivia Witthuhn. Witthuhn presented the mayor with the city’s plaque (right) for meeting the qualifications to be named a Tree City USA once again and then the students helped the mayor unfurl the city’s official Tree City USA flag (cover). Afterward, the students presented the mayor with drawings they made of trees (below) which will hang in City Hall.
