Resorters bounce back to win in nine

MANITOWOC – After surrendering a five-run lead in the bottom of the seventh, the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters pulled out a 9-6 win in nine over host Manitowoc Lutheran in the opener of a softball doubleheader Tuesday.

The score was tied 6-6 going into the top of the ninth where Elkhart scored three runs to seize a 9-6 lead. Saylor Schoenborn doubled in the go-ahead run with two outs and Megan Waage followed with a two-run single.

The Resorters lost the nightcap in the Big East Conference twinbill, 15-0, in three innings. Elkhart is 1-2 in BEC play (1-2 overall). The Lancers are 1-1 in the league (1-2 overall).

Elkhart pounded out 14 hits in the opener, led by Kaylin Kalbacken with three. Ciara Hassinger, Maddie Schneider, Aryka Klemme, Schoenborn and Waage cracked two each.

Waage had a team-high four RBIs, followed by Kalbacken and Schoenborn with two apiece.

Waage earned a complete game win. She allowed three earned runs on seven hits with five walks and three strikeouts.

Schneider collected Elkhart’s lone hit in game two. Lutheran had only five hits but was aided by 12 walks.
