Panthers’ comeback falls shy

PLYMOUTH – A rally by the Plymouth Panthers fell short as they lost to state-ranked Campbellsport, 8-5, in an East Central Conference softball game here Friday evening.

PHS trailed 7-1 after 3½ innings. The Panthers scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth on a double by Kendra Stauss which pulled PHS to within 7-4. The Panthers scored a run in the fifth on Kennedy Arbuckle’s single which made it 7-5.

The Cougars, ranked No. 5 in the Wisconsin Fast-Pitch Softball Coaches Association Division 3 poll, hiked their ECC record to 5-2 (7-2 overall). PHS, which played its fourth straight game against a stateranked opponent, slipped to 1-5 in the ECC (3-5 overall).

“We played a solid game. We never gave up. I’m really proud of this group for their effort,” said PHS head coach Gale Grahn.

Sommer Stoney led PHS in hits and runs with two each. Stauss had a team-high three RBIs.

Kaitlyn Schill, Morgan Fryman, Erica Marchant and Adrianna Dechant paced the Cougars in hits with two each. Marchant led in RBIs with three.

Alyssa Muench was the winning pitcher. Muench went the distance and allowed three earned runs on five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

The losing hurler was Sylvia Peters who surrendered three earned runs on 12 hits with one walk, one strikeout and a hit batter in seven innings.
