Concert lineup announced for Levitt Amp Sheboygan music series

Another unforgettable season of free summer concerts in downtown Sheboygan is just around the corner! Today, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center announced an impressive lineup of artists who will perform during the 2018 Levitt AMP Sheboygan Music Series.

Grab your family, friends and neighbors, and plan to head on down to Sheboygan’s City Green at Seventh Street and New York Avenue in downtown Sheboygan most Thursdays at 6 p.m. from June 21 through August 23. Concerts will also be held Saturday and Sunday, July 21 and 22, during the Midsummer Festival of the Arts.

The Levitt AMP Sheboygan Music Series will present 11 free, family-friendly concerts featuring a diverse lineup of high caliber talent spanning genres like bluegrass, funk and roots rock. It is sponsored in part by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a private family foundation that empowers communities to transform neglected public spaces into thriving destinations through the power of free, live music.

Boogát kicks off the series Thursday, June 21, performing a combination of hip-hop and Latin music styles such as cumbia, salsa, and reggaetón. Alternative rock band Cold Soda Club opens the show.

Also on the summer lineup are The Main Squeeze and Porky’s Groove Machine on June 28, a double dose of funk styles; and Whiskey Shivers and Honey Goats on July 5, this time a double hit of bluegrass. On July 12, audiences will be treated to a Louisiana, creole, pop musical mix by the band Sweet Crude.

The concerts shift to Saturday and Sunday on July 21 and 22 as part of the Arts Center’s Midsummer Festival of the Arts. Headlining the three Saturday performances is Mark Croft Band, offering a roots/ pop/Americana blend. Sunday’s headliner is the alternative rock group Big Little Lions.

The concerts return to Thursday evenings for the remainder of the series: July 26, Martha Redbone Roots Project; Aug. 2 is a double bill, Lilly Hiatt followed by Suzanne Slair; Aug. 9, Making Movies; Aug. 16, Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra opens for Doolin’; and Aug. 23, Delhi 2 Dublin.

The public is invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts, and to grab dinner from one of the food trucks or bring a picnic basket. Beverages will be available on the concert grounds. Be sure to arrive by 6 p.m. to catch all the talent.
