Blue Bombers end Tigers’ unbeaten streak

KOHLER – The Kohler Blue Bombers scored three goals in the first 17 minutes to fuel an impressive 4-0 win over Howards Grove in Big East Conference girls soccer action here Monday evening.

Tigers, who had a five-match unbeaten streak halted, dropped to 3-2 in the BEC (5-2-1 overall). HG is ranked No. 3 in the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Division 4 poll. Kohler improved to 4-1-2 in the BEC (same overall).

Samantha Renzelmann scored Kohler’s first goal, followed by a goal each from Molly Thomack and Sarah Cassidy, respectively. The Blue Bombers led 3-0 at halftime. Sarah Cassidy’s goal made it 4-0.

Samantha Cassidy led Kohler in assists with two. Isabel O’Donnell and Thomack had one each.

Kohler led 16-9 in shots on goal. Tiger goalie Sara Marten made seven saves and Kohler goalie Madeleine Wandschneider had six.

“The artificial turf at Kohler plays fast which we did not adjust to as quickly as we needed to. The wind was at our backs in the first half but it only added to our frustration as the combination of fast turf and wind made most of our passes beyond reach,” said Tiger head coach David Kisiolek.

“Kohler’s short passing game was the difference in the game. They were passing and we were chasing. Give Kohler a lot of credit. They had a well thought-out game plan and they executed it very well.

“Our starting midfield consists of three freshmen: Leah Parnitzke, Mackenzie Holzwart and Payton Sharl. I am very pleased with the play of all three of them,” said Kisiolek.
