Panthers sweep, up win streak to three

PHS won the opener, 8-4, and the nightcap, 10-3. The Panthers improved to 4-6 in the ECC (7-6 overall). PHS pounded out 24 hits in the twinbill.

“It was a nice sweep to cap off a 4-1 week. Sommer Stoney finished the week an incredible 14-for-22 [.640 batting average] with nine runs scored in five games,” said Panther head coach Gale Grahn.

“Sylvia Peters continued to be strong on the mound, and the defense only committed six errors in five games.”

Peters earned complete- game wins in both games. In game one, the senior right hander allowed two earned runs on 10 hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

Leider had a team-high two RBIs on a double in the bottom of the sixth inning. Stoney led in runs with three.

GAME TWO

Stoney sparked the Panthers’ offense in the nightcap with a team-high four hits and three RBIs. Hannah Held contributed three hits and two RBIs. Jessica Fenske and Kayla Prahl added two RBIs each. Leider led in runs with two.

PHS broke the game open with four runs in the top of the third which gave it a 7-1 lead. The key hits for Plymouth were Fenske’s two-run double and Held’s two-run single.

Peters gave up three earned runs on eight hits with one walk, a strikeout and one hit batter.
