Two Rivers storms back to edge Tigers

HOWARDS GROVE – Two Rivers rallied for a 15-14 non-conference softball win over Howards Grove here Monday afternoon.

The defeat dropped the Tigers’ record to 4-7.

The Purple Raiders erupted for eight runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 15-14 lead after HG had a seven-run outburst in the fifth to build a 14-7 lead. Alissa Taylor’s two-run single was the key hit for Two Rivers in the sixth.

HG pounded out a season high 18 hits, led by Courtney Binversie who was 4-for-5, including a triple. Cassidy Kahl three hits, followed by Maddie Koenig and Chloe Dirker with two each. Kahl had a team-high four RBIs.

Taylor and Hannah Harteau paced Two Rivers in hits with two each.

“We are struggling a bit defensively but continue to gain experience for this young team. This will pay huge gains down the line at the end of the season and the next few years,” said Tiger head coach Tom Heier.
