Panthers sweep ECC quad meets

PLYMOUTH – The Plymouth Panthers won the East Central Conference boys and girls quadrangular track meets here May 8.

The PHS girls, led by triple winner Gabi Mella, scored 103 points, followed by Kewaskum with 78, Kettle Moraine Lutheran (Jackson), 68 and Campbellsport with 14.

The Panther boys, paced by double-winners Jack Nytes and Jack Luedtke, outscored runner-up Kewaskum, 109.5- 97.5. KML took third with 39, followed by Campbellsport with 21.

Mella won the 100-meter dash in 13.51 seconds, 200 dash, 27.30 and the long jump at 16-2½.

Nytes swept the weight events – taking first in the discus with 148-4 and the shot put at 47-1.

Luedtke won the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.79 and the 300 intermediate hurdles in 43.05.

Cece Huhn won two events for the PHS girls – high jump at 5-0 and the discus with 128-9.

Plymouth’s other winners in the girls meet included:

Amanda Triebensee in the 1,600 in 6 minutes, 11.68 seconds; 800 relay with Christiana Hoyt, Mella, Sierra Grimm and Lexi Sheridan in 1:53.58; Lauren Rabe, 400, 1:00.07; and the 400 relay with Katie Benedict, Madeline Haucke, Ellie Staehling and Sheridan in 54.51.

The PHS boys’ other winners included:

3,200 relay with Max Hassel,

Ansel Olsen, Gabe Olsen and Eric Preissner in 9:16.24; Charlie Waitkus, 1,600, 5:05.28; Adam Smith, 400, 55.42; Mason Guell, 200, 23.90; and Kory Tetschlag, pole vault at 11-6.

“This was a nice meet for both teams. Our field event athletes continue to perform well as the better weather has allowed them to hit many personal records,” said PHS head coach Jay Grosshuesch.

“Many of our runners ran different events just to give them a good workout and they responded well.”
