Szklarska’s goal lifts Tigers over Warriors

FREDONIA – Senior Klara Szklarska’s goal nine minutes into the second half gave the Howards Grove Tigers a 2-1 win over host Ozaukee in a Big East Conference girls soccer match May 10.

Leah Parnitzke assisted on the game-winning goal.

The Tigers upped their Big East Conference record to 4-2 (7-2-1 overall). The Warriors slipped to 3-4-1 in the BEC (6-4-1 overall).

Freshman Mackenzie Holzwart put HG up 1-0 at halftime with a goal 19 minutes into the match.

The Warriors tied the match on a goal by Samantha Kroeger, assisted by Cayleigh Oversold, five minutes into the second half.

The Tigers held a 24-11 edge in shots on goal. HG goalie Sara Marten made nine saves and Warrior goalkeeper Emily Janowski had 11.

“Ozaukee is a good team and vastly improved from last year. While we had a significant edge in shots on goal, the game itself was quite evenly played,” said Tiger head coach David Kisiolek.

“Ozaukee forward Abby Miller is one of the better players in the conference. We felt that holding her in check would likely decide who would win this contest. Mackenzie Holzwart did very well in limiting Miller’s touches.”
