Panthers send 18 events to sectional

Schermacher placed first. – Photo by Tyler Luedtke NEENAH – The Plymouth Panthers’ boys and girls teams qualified 10 and eight events, respectively, for sectional competition at the Division 1 regional track meet here Monday.

Leading the way for the boys’ qualifiers was senior Mason Guell who won the long jump at 21-10 and the triple jump with 41-3. Guell also advanced in the 400-meter dash with a fourth-place finish.

Senior Emily LaVine was a double sectional qualifier for the girls team after earning a fourth in the discus and a third in the shot put.

The top-four finishers in each regional event qualified for the sectional which was scheduled for Thursday, May 24 at Hartford.

PHS finished fourth in the boys meet with 88 points and fourth in the girls field with 93. Neenah was the girls champion with 166.5. Fond du Lac won the boys title with 155.

The other winner for the PHS boys was senior Jaxsen Schermacher in the pole vault at 14-0.

“We had a strong meet by both teams. Our athletes competed very well in some cold and wet conditions, yet they still produced some quality performances,” said Panther head coach Jay Grosshuesch.

“In the field events, it was good to have Jaxsen jumping so well again after battling an injury. Mason continues to jump so well in both of his events and Cece hit some clutch jumps to win the high jump.”

“We showed some good mental toughness – staying focused despite the weather,” said Grosshuesch.
