Tigers sharp in shutout over Falcons

HOWARDS GROVE – The Howards Grove Tigers played one of their best matches of the season as they defeated Sheboygan Falls, 4-0, in a girls soccer match played in rainy, very wet conditions.

The non conference win hiked the Tigers’ record to 9-2- 2. HG is ranked No. 5 in the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Division 4 poll. The Falcons dropped to 7-6-1.

“We probably played our best overall game since the Brookfield Academy tournament in April [28],” said Tiger head coach David Kisiolek.

“Our short passing game was excellent. Freshmen Leah Parnitzke and Mackenzie Holzwart form a duo at center midfield that most teams would envy.”

“Sheboygan Falls is a good team with several outstanding players and an experienced coaching staff. We may have caught them on an off-day.”

Kayla Bender’s goal only 3:44 into the match gave HG a 1-0 halftime lead. Mackenzie Holzwart assisted on the goal.

Kate Bruckschen scored the next two goals early in the second half on direct kicks. Holzwart scored the final goal.

The Tigers led 17-8 in shots on goal. HG goalie Sara Marten made five saves and Falcon goalie Alisa Mendez had 10.

“It was Senior Night and our seniors all were significant contributors to the win: Lizzy Betke at center back and Kayla Gilligan and Kenzie Schlafke at outside midfield. Our fourth senior, Klara Szklarska [foreign exchange student] was ill and did not play against Falls,” said Kisiolek.
