Short-handed Resorters earn victory

ELKHART LAKE – Despite playing with one player short the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah girls soccer team defeated Valders, 3-1, in a nonconference match here May 24.

The Resorters ended the regular season with a 2-10-1 record and snapped a seven-game losing streak.

The match was scoreless at halftime. In the second half the Resorters erupted for three goals within three minutes of each other. Alex Schneider scored in the 72nd minute, followed by Kianna Bahr’s at the 74-minute mark and Kate Smite’s in the 75th.

The Vikings’ goal came from Samady Romo with three minutes left.

“With 10 girls available we adjusted our formation to play against Valders’ 11. Defensively, the girls did great keeping Valders out of the [penalty] box tonight – not letting them have any clean shots,” said Resorter head coach Kevin Ruh.

“Deliliah Quasius switched into the attacking mid-position midway through the first half and put pressure on their defense.

“Being Senior Night, none of the girls let down. Knowing we had 10 did not matter to them tonight as they rotated positions and kept each other as fresh as possible,” said Ruh.

The Vikings led 12-9 in shots on goal. Elkhart goalie Sarah Schneider made 11 saves.
