JMKAC to celebrate start of Art Preserve construction

The John Michael Kohler Arts Center will mark the construction of the Art Preserve with a free community celebration at the building site, Saturday, June 9, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Located at 3636 Indiana Ave. on Sheboygan’s west perimeter, the Art Preserve is the future home of the Art Center’s renowned collection of art environments. Construction of the building, which began earlier this spring, is expected to be completed in 2019, with the Art Preserve opening scheduled for 2020.

Among the family friendly activities at the June 9 celebration will be a LEGO building workshop, an ice cream sundae station, poster printing, and live music by Josh Harty and The Big Tasty. Food trucks will be on site for those who wish to purchase a meal. A welcome ceremony will be held at 1:30 p.m.

Limited parking is available along the shoulders of Indiana Avenue near the site. Shuttle service will run every half hour from the John Michael Kohler Arts Center at 608 New York Ave., La Conquistadora at 1218 Indiana Ave., and the UW-Sheboygan parking lot.

About the Art Preserve

The Art Preserve will provide a safe home for the 20,000 works of art in the Arts Center’s world-renowned collection of art environments. The current facilities for the collection at the Arts Center’s New York Avenue location have reached capacity, making it difficult to both care for and grow our holdings. The Art Preserve will remedy these problems with spaces designed specifically to house this special collection.
