Dutchmen rally past Tigers in BEC game

OOSTBURG – Howards Grove outhit Oostburg 6-5 but made a costly error as it fell, 6-2, in a Big East Conference smallschool division baseball game here Wednesday evening.

The Flying Dutchmen scored three runs, all unearned, in the bottom of the fourth inning to grab a 4-2 lead. A Tiger error led to the three runs.

Oostburg raised its BEC record to 3-5 (3-5 overall). The Tigers slipped to 5-3 in league play (5-3 overall).

Freshman Aaron Huibregtse earned a complete-game victory. Huibregtse surrendered two earned runs on six hits with four walks and six strikeouts.

Nic Koenig was the Tigers’ starting and losing pitcher. Koenig gave up four runs (one earned) on only three hits with four walks and six strikeouts in five innings.

Hayden Smith relieved Koenig and pitched one inning – allowing two earned runs on two hits with one walk and a strikeout.

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the first on Mason Valenstein’s first home run of the season. Valenstein and Alec Danen had a team-high two hits each.

The Dutchmen didn’t have any batters with multiple hits. Dawson Wilterdink led in runs scored with two.
