Dorf Kapelle at Buttermilk Creek Park on June 27

Dorf Kapelle will give its 22nd Buttermilk Festival performance on Wednesday, June 27. The concert starts at 7:15 p.m. at the Wifler Performance Center in Buttermilk Creek Park, Fond du Lac. In the event of unsuitable weather, the con- cert will be moved to the County Fairgrounds.

Now in its 31st year, Dorf Kapelle was organized in 1988 and performed at the first Buttermilk Festival in 1989. Capturing the traditional ethnic style of the typical European Village Band, Dorf Kapelle has thrilled audiences at major festivals, stage performances, dances and concerts throughout Wisconsin. This group of fine musicians is dedicated to the reproduction of European wind music which includes polkas, marches, waltzes and specialty selections performed in the ethnic style of its origin.

The band consists of one flute/piccolo, three clarinets, two flugelhorns, one trumpet, three trombones, two tubas, one tenor horn, one euphonium, percussion, sound specialist and vocalist. In addition, the band often splits into smaller combos using accordions, alphorns and other Austrian style instrumentation to provide an incredible variety of musical styles and show its entertainment versatility.

The Music performed by the Dorf Kapelle comes from all sources, with priority to the famous Ernst Mosch band of Germany. Leader Ernst Broeniman is a recognized authority on the European wind band, with knowledge gained through countless visits and exchanges with European ensembles. Broeniman is retired from a long career as high school and city band director in Plymouth WI, and currently resides in Hortonville.

Next on the Buttermilk Festival schedule is the Fond du Lac Symphonic Band’s 39th annual Family Night on July 11, followed by a performance at Firemen’s Park in Campbellsport on July 12. The Symphonic Band will also perform at Lakeside Park at 7:30 p.m. on the 4th of July, followed by fireworks on the lakefront at dusk.
