Cain’s two homers spark Flames to rout

SAUKVILLE – Zac Cain slammed two home runs and had four RBIs to ignite the Plymouth Flames to a 9-1 drubbing of the Saukville Saints in Rock River Baseball League action here Sunday afternoon.

The Flames raised their Northern Division record to 2-5 (6-10 overall). The Saints fell to 0-8 in the division (1-8 overall).

Cain belted a two-run homer in the top of the first inning and added a solo blast in the ninth. He also had an RBI double and led the Flames in hits with four.

Tyler Betry drove in three runs for Plymouth, including two on a double. Jake Steinhardt contributed two of the Flames’ 11 hits.

Derek Hall earned a complete-game victory. Hall allowed one unearned run on eight hits with no walks and five strikeouts.

“Zac had a huge day. His big blows [home runs] really helped,” said Flame manager Rick Meyer.

“Derek looked good. He threw strikes. He got his breaking pitches into his spots which was crucial and got ahead of the hitters.

“We played pretty well, defensively, and hit the ball well. Overall, it was a good performance,” said Meyer.

Meyer liked the balance in the lineup which had seven batters with at least one hit.

Ian Tucker led the Saints in hits with two.

Saukville starting pitcher Nate Lukas was saddled with the loss. Lukas threw five innings and surrendered six runs (all earned) on five hits with six walks and two strikeouts.
