Holzman’s HR keys Riverdogs’ comeback win

The Riverdogs trailed 7-5 going into the top of the ninth after the Crusaders scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a 7-5 lead. HG scored four runs in the ninth to seize a 9-7 lead.

Cole Reinemann came in to pitch the ninth for the Riverdogs and retired the side in order to earn a save. Holzman, who relieved starting pitcher Brad Olson in the eighth, picked up the win.

The Riverdogs upped their record to 5-2 in the league’s first half standings. Mount Calvary dropped to 4-3 in the league.

Holzman and Noah Steines led HG in hits with two each.

Joe Birschbach and Matt Smith paced the Crusaders in hits with two apiece. Birschbach slugged a three-run homer which gave his team a 3-0 lead in the first.

Bryce Karrels was the losing hurler.

HG-ST. CLOUD GAME

In league play Saturday afternoon, Holzman singled in Zach Fritz in the bottom of the 11th to give the Riverdogs a 4-3 win over the visiting St. Cloud Chargers.

The Chargers tied the game, 3-3, with two runs in the top of the eighth. Cole Reinemann relieved Nick Nelson in the ninth and stranded a runner at third who had led off with a triple.

Reinemann was the winning pitcher. Austin Edge started on the mound for HG and pitched eight strong innings – allowing three runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts.

Fritz had an impressive day at the plate with a team-high five hits, including a double. Edge contributed two hits.

Brandon Goebel and Eric Feldner keyed the Chargers’ attack with three hits each, including a triple apiece.

Sonny Johnson was the losing pitcher.
