Cain earns Gold Glove award

Zac Cain and Matt Olig, 2015 Plymouth High School graduates, had strong college baseball seasons this past spring. Cain, a junior first baseman at Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa, was named to the Northern Sun Conference’s Gold Glove Team for the 2018 season. He committed zero errors in the 32 conference games he started at first base. Overall for the season, Cain made only error for an impressive .997 fielding percentage. On offense, Cain was second on the Peacock team in batting with a .319 average for the overall season. He started all 41 games and had three doubles, a home run and 28 RBIs. Olig, a sophomore pitcher at Concordia University in Mequon, tied for the team lead in wins with a 5-2 record and was third in ERA with an excellent 2.28. He made nine starts and had one complete game. Olig pitched 59-1/3 innings and allowed 48 hits with 17 walks and 22 strikeouts. The Concordia Falcons compete in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

Plymouth’s Scheel shoots ace

CRYSTAL LAKE – Dave Scheel of Plymouth carded a hole-inone Monday at the Sir Lanserlot Golf Course. Scheel, playing in the Monday Cascade Men’s League, aced the par-3, 108-yard 14th hole with a pitching wedge.
