Flames coast past Benders in league play

WEST BEND – The Plymouth Flames banged out 12 hits and were helped by the West Bend Benders’ sloppy fielding to key an 11-2 rout in baseball action here Wednesday night, June 20.

The Flames improved to 3-5 in the Rock River Baseball League Northern Division, 2-4 in the Southeast Wisconsin Baseball League and 7-10 overall. The Benders fell to 0-6 in the division and 0-9 overall.

Plymouth’s first four batters combined for nine hits, led by Mike Daly with three. Derek Hall, Zac Cain and Matt Olig contributed two each. Cain had a team-high four RBIs.

West Bend committed eight errors which led to eight unearned runs by the Flames.

The Flames broke the game open with four runs in the top of the sixth inning to build their lead to 8-2. Plymouth cracked four hits in the frame, including an RBI single each from Cain and Olig.

Jake Steinhardt notched a complete-game win. Steinhardt allowed one earned run on six hits with five walks, a hit batter and nine strikeouts.

Jordan Luczak paced the Benders in hits with two.

The losing pitcher was starter Mark Weyker who gave up nine runs (two earned) on 11 hits with four walks and four strikeouts in seven innings.
