Tigers roll, finish second in division

FREDONIA – The Howards Grove Tigers built an 8-0 lead en route to an 11-4 win over host Ozaukee in a Big East Conference small-school division baseball game Thursday evening.

The Tigers upped their league record to 15-5 (15-5 overall). HG finished second in the division. Random Lake won the division with an 18-4 record.

HG scored four runs in the top of the third inning to take a 5-0 lead. The key hit was a tworun single by Alec Danen. Jack Lilyquist contributed an RBI single.

The Tigers added thee runs in the fourth to go up 8-0. Hayden Smith hit an RBI single. The other two runs scored on an error.

Senior Isaac Dirker had a strong pitching outing to earn the win. Dirker went four innings and allowed one run (earned) on two hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Mason Valenstein led the Tigers in hits with two, including a triple. Danen had a team-high two RBIs. Eric Reinemann and Valenstein led in runs scored with two each.

Brent Hoffmann was the Warriors’ top batter with three hits, including a triple. Logan Bell led in RBIs with two.

Jacob Eibs was the losing hurler. Eibs surrendered five runs (four earned) on three hits with one walk, three hit batters and two strikeouts in 2-2/3 innings.

The Warriors fell to 3-17 in the small-school division (3-17 overall).
